how it Began:

On Christmas Day, 2020, our founder Cherie Privett and her husband Kevin set out with a simple mission: bring the love of Jesus to our most vulnerable neighbors through a pair of socks.

What started with an Amazon wishlist of a few packages quickly grew beyond imagination.

By the end of 2021, the community had collected 9,628 pairs of socks.

A group of people gathered outdoors, some standing and some kneeling, with a woman sitting on the ground holding a baby wrapped in a blanket. It is a sunny day with clear skies, and there are trees and a fence in the background.

why we exist

Socks opened doors but they also revealed deeper needs. Each conversation reminded us that our friends needed more than a single item. They needed resources, dignity, and consistent relationships to help them take steps toward stability.

That’s when City Missions was born: a nonprofit dedicated to resourcing the housing challenged and inspiring our community to walk alongside them.

who we are

City Missions began with socks, but it has grown into something much larger. It is a community of people who believe that every friend deserves hope, dignity, and resources.

Right now, our work is mobile and street-level. We go where our friends experiencing homelessness are: in encampments, on sidewalks, and in gathering places. We offer socks, clothing, hygiene kits, food, and encouragement. Each interaction is a chance to build trust, show dignity, and remind someone they are not forgotten.

Our vision is to create a permanent Resource Center, a safe place where people can access showers, laundry, food, clothing, and navigation support. We know real change happens when services come together, so we are committed to collaborating with other nonprofits, churches, and community partners to make that vision a reality.

City Missions exists to walk with people, resource them with care, and bring the community together to create lasting change.

what We Do

Our approach is Resourcing-First. We believe when people have consistent access to essentials and support, they are better able to take next steps.

Programs include:

Street Outreach — meals, Hope Kits, and relationship building

Mobile Closet — clothing and hygiene with dignity

Volunteer Engagement — opportunities for the community to serve together

Future Outreach Center — a hub for care navigation, collaboration, and stability
